Thomas More stops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team wrapped up the 2006-07 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 73-59 home loss to visiting Thomas More in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Junior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) fired in a game-high 18 points on 6-of-9 shooting for Grove City. Overdorff drained three three-point goals. Junior center Rachel McCoy (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

Thomas More (20-4, 10-2 PAC) jumped out to a 32-14 lead in the first half. Grove City whittled the lead down to eight, however, as sophomore forward Jennifer Wiley (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) ignited a 10-0 run with a pair of lay-ups. Overdorff added a pair of free throws during the spurt.

Thomas More pushed the lead to 37-24 by halftime and then broke the game open with a 9-0 run early in the second half.

Megan Wood and Alex Gee each led Thomas More with 15. The Saints owned a 41-30 edge on the glass. Grove City (5-19, 2-10) did force 21 Thomas More turnovers, however. The Saints shot 20 of 47 (43 percent) from the floor while Grove City went 23 for 62 (37 percent). Thomas More also held a decided edge at the foul line, making 25 of 33 attempts. Grove City posted a 7-for-9 effort at the line.

Prior to the game, Grove City honored seniors Elyse Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and Sarah Bray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) as part of Senior Day festivities.

Grove City will be the No. 7 seed in next week's PAC Championship Tournament. The Wolverines will visit No. 2 seed Westminster Tuesday night in the quarterfinals.
