Behrend downs Grove City, 57-44

ERIE, Pa. -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Monday night but the Wolverines dropped a 57-44 decision to host Penn State Behrend in non-conference women's basketball action at the Junker Center.

Grove City trailed by one, 23-22, at the half and quickly grabbed a 24-23 lead early in the second half. However, Behrend (4-5) broke the game open in the second half with a 21-5 run. Behrend forced 14 Grove City turnovers in the second half and 20 for the game.

Behrend led 23-15 late in the first half but the Wolverines trimmed the lead to one with a half-ending 7-0 spurt.

Sophomore forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) led Grove City (2-6) with 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting. She also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and freshman forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) both added 10 points.

Julia Andrus led Behrend with 24 points.

Grove City shot 18 of 58 (31 percent) from the floor for the game while Behrend made 21 of 53 attempts (39 percent). Behrend also owned a 40-34 rebound edge.

Grove City returns to action January 2-3, 2008 at the Gettysburg College Days Inn Classic.
