Gettysburg tops Grove City in tournament final

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- Host Gettysburg (6-4) used a 15-1 run in the second half on its way to a 70-56 victory over the Grove City College women's basketball team Thursday afternoon in the championship game of the 18th annual Days Inn Tournament at Hen Bream Gymnasium.

Grove City (3-7) led by as many as eight, 24-16, in the first half. However, Gettysburg eventually rallied to take a 33-32 halftime lead. In the second half, Grove City went eight minutes without a field goal as the Bullets stretched their lead to 54-39. Grove City closed to within 10, 54-44, with 8:19 left on a three-pointer from freshman guard C.J. Beatty (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian).

Senior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) led Grove City with a game-high 18 points while senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added 10 points and six rebounds. Freshman forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) earned All-Tournament team honors for the Wolverines after a 22-point, nine-rebound outing Wednesday night against Montclair State. Slater recorded seven points, six boards and three assists against Gettysburg.

Tournament MVP Megan Hartman led Gettysburg with 14 points. Gettysburg shot 15 of 29 (52 percent) from the floor in the second half and 27 of 61 (44 percent) for the game. Grove City shot 39 percent (21 of 54) from the field. Gettysburg out-rebounded Grove City, 37-36.

Overdorff and sophomore forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) each had four assists for Grove City.

The Wolverines will return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. against Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Chatham in Pittsburgh.
