Wolverine upset bid falls short

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 61-46 decision to fifth-ranked Thomas More (12-0, 5-0 PAC) Wednesday evening in a Presidents' Athletic Conference game at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) led Grove City with 12 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added 11 points and six rebounds.

Thomas More jumped out to a 6-0 lead but Grove City eventually closed the gap to 22-20 on a Miller jumper with 4:47 left in the half. However, the Saints closed the first half on a 7-0 run and led 29-20 at the break.

In the second half, Grove City pulled to within eight on several occasions but Thomas More sealed the win with an 8-0 run in the closing moments of the game.

Grove City (3-9, 0-4 PAC) out-rebounded Thomas More, 40-26. The Wolverines surrendered just four offensive rebounds. Grove City shot 17 of 52 (33 percent) from the field while the Saints shot 45 percent (22 of 49).

Jayme Thiem led Thomas More with 15 points while Tandrea Sellers added 13 points.

Thomas More is ranked fifth in this week's Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA)/USA TODAY Division III poll. The Saints are No. 7 in the D3Hoops.com poll.

Grove City will host Bethany Saturday afternoon in PAC game.
