Bethany clips Grove City, 56-47

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Four Grove City players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon but the host Wolverines dropped a 56-47 decision to Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) posted an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double for the Wolverines while sophomore Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) recorded 10 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Sophomore Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added 11 points and nine rebounds while senior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) fired in 10 points.

Grove City owned a 48-36 rebound edge. However, the Wolverines committed 27 turnovers which led to 19 Bethany points.

Grove City led 22-21 at the half and led by as many as six, 29-23, in the second half. Bethany grabbed the lead for good, though, with a 12-1 run midway through the second half. Grove City closed to 45-42 with three minutes left on an Overdorff basket but Bethany (7-5, 3-1 PAC) sealed the win with an 11-2 run.

Susannah Cartland led the Bison with 12 points while Lisa Mitchell added 11. Bethany shot 34 percent (21 of 61) from the field while Grove City made 33 percent (19 of 58) of its field-goal attempts. Bethany also went 17 of 26 (65 percent) at the line. The Wolverines attempted just four foul shots, making three. Bethany had a 30-0 edge in bench scoring.

Anderson added five steals for Grove City (3-10, 0-5) while Beechy and Miller both had three assists.

Grove City will visit Waynesburg Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. in PAC action.
