Wolverines win 3rd straight

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Senior guard Shannon Overdorff (Eighty Four, Pa./United) poured in 17 points while sophomore forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) added a dozen points Wednesday night as the Grove City College women's basketball team earned a 65-54 victory over host Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia. It is Grove City's third straight victory.

Grove City also limited Thiel (6-9, 3-4 PAC) to just 29 percent (18 of 61) shooting from the field. Grove City also forced 22 turnovers, which led to 20 Wolverine points.

Grove City led 31-25 at the half but Thiel tied the game at 38 four minutes into the second half. However, Grove City used a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Freshman forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) ignited the run with a three while senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) and freshman guard C.J. Beatty (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Christian) both hit two free throws.

The Wolverines sealed the win down the stretch with a 10-0 run. Overdorff and Beechy both scored a pair of baskets while Beatty's layup gave Grove City a 59-46 lead with 2:13 left.

Anderson and Slater both contributed nine points each. Anderson also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Amber Bodrick led Thiel with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Grove City (6-10, 2-5 PAC) held Bodrick to a 5-for-21 shooting effort from the field, though. Thiel out-rebounded Grove City, 48-41.

Beechy, this week's PAC Player of the Week, has scored in double figures in each of Grove City's last four games.
