Bethany downs Grove City, 68-60
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 68-60 decision to host Bethany Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Hummel Field House.
Grove City (8-14, 3-9 PAC) led by as many as six in the first half, 16-10, and trailed just 28-26 at halftime. However, Bethany (13-9, 8-3 PAC) scored six points in the first 30 seconds of the second half and never trailed over the final 20 minutes.
Freshman forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) led Grove City with 16 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Junior guard Katy McCready (New Galilee, Pa./Mohawk) fired in a career-high 12 points while sophomore Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added nine second-half points.
Grove City limited Bethany to just 33 percent (27 of 81) shooting from the field. The Wolverines also out-rebounded Bethany, 55-48. However, Grove City committed 30 turnovers, which Bethany converted into 26 points.
Grove City shot 36 percent (22 of 62) from the field, including a 5-for-10 effort behind the three-point line. Slater and McCready both drained a pair of three-point goals.
Kelly Goode led Bethany with 16 points while Renee Brandenburg added 13 points.
The Wolverines will host Waynesburg Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. in PAC play in the Grove City College Arena.
