Wolverines top Waynesburg

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 9-14 overall Saturday afternoon with a 56-43 home victory over Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City limited Waynesburg (1-22, 0-12 PAC) to just 30 percent (14 of 47) shooting from the field. The Wolverines also forced 28 turnovers.

Junior guard Katy McCready (New Galilee, Pa./Mohawk) fired in a career-high 14 points, including four three-point goals, for Grove City. Sophomore Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added 11 points for the Wolverines, who led 27-14 at halftime.

Grove City never trailed and led by as many as 17, 44-27, in the second half. Waynesburg pulled to within 49-40 with two minutes left but the Wolverines clinched the win with a 7-for-8 effort at the foul line.

Sophomore Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) chipped in nine points while freshman Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) contributed eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds for Grove City.

Michalene Jones led Waynesburg with 11 points and eight rebounds. Waynesburg out-rebounded Grove City, 41-35. 

Grove City will visit Saint Vincent Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
