Wolverines fall in semifinals
CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team wrapped up the 2007-08 season Friday night with 75-27 setback against top-seeded Thomas More in the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament.
Thomas More (27-0) will host fourth-seeded Westminster Saturday afternoon for the conference title. Westminster defeated No. 2 Washington & Jefferson in overtime Friday, 82-77. Grove City, the tournament's sixth seed, finishes the season 11-16 overall -- a six-win improvement from last season.
Senior forward Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) closed her collegiate career by pouring in a game-high 12 points for the Wolverines. Anderson also had seven rebounds and four blocks.
Grove City missed its first seven shots from the field as the Saints charged out to a 16-0 lead. Thomas More led 40-12 at halftime.
Grove City turned the ball over only 14 times but Thomas More limited the Wolverines to a 10-for-58 (17 percent) shooting effort from the field. Thomas More, meanwhile, shot 45 percent (30 of 66). Thomas More also owned a 56-33 rebound edge.
Tandrea Sellers led Thomas More with 10 points. Thirteen different Thomas More players scored. Thomas More is the No. 1 team in the NCAA Great Lakes Region and is currently No. 3 in the WBCA/USA TODAY Division III poll.
