Grove City falls to Eastern

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 63-56 decision to Eastern University Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of Messiah College's Wingate Inn Tournament at Brubaker Auditorium.

Grove City (0-3) led 31-26 at half but cold second-half shooting plagued the Wolverines. Grove City shot 5 of 21 (22 percent) in the second half. The Wolverines also committed a season-high 27 turnovers.

Defensively, Grove City limited Eastern (2-2) to just 32 percent shooting (19 of 60) for the game. Grove City finished 18 of 55 (37 percent) from the floor.

Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) led Grove City with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double while junior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) posted 13 points and eight rebounds. Grove City owned a 44-41 edge on the glass.

Bekah Roland led Eastern with 26 points. Eastern took the lead for good with 10:32 left in the game on a jumper from Jeriah Garton.

Grove City will visit Case Western Reserve Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in non-conference play. The Wolverines will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Monday, December 1 against Washington & Jefferson.
