Case tops Grove City

CLEVELAND -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Tuesday night but the visiting Wolverines dropped a 60-48 decision to host Case Western Reserve in non-conference women's basketball action at Horsburgh Gymnasium.

Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) fired in 17 points and added eight rebounds while senior guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) added 11 points. Junior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) added 10 points and a game-high four assists.

Case Western (2-1) led 31-21 at halftime and extended its lead to as many as 22, 52-30, in the second half. The Spartans out-rebounded Grove City, 44-43. Sophomore Jenna Johnston (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) pulled in a game-high 10 rebounds for Grove City.

Grove City shot 20 of 57 (35 percent) from the field while Case shot 37 percent (26 of 70). Grove City turned the ball over 23 times while Case had 16 turnovers. Ashleigh Tondo led Case Western with 17 points.

Grove City (0-4) will open Presidents' Athletic Conference play Monday, December 1 against visiting Washington & Jefferson at 6 p.m.
