Grove City downs Geneva, 68-58

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Junior Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) fired in a career-high 18 points while sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds to help lift the Grove City College women's basketball team to a 68-58 home win over Geneva Wednesday night at the Grove City College Arena.

Senior guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) added a dozen points for the Wolverines while freshman guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) posted 11 points and four assists.

Grove City (1-5) stormed out to a 37-19 halftime lead after holding Geneva (3-2) to just seven first-half field goals. The Wolverines closed the half on a 10-0 run as Miller scored eight of her 18 points during the stretch.

The Wolverines extended the lead to 41-21 early in the second half and owned a 58-38 advantage with 7:18 left. Geneva closed to within eight in the closing seconds but Gebrosky sealed the win with a pair of free throws.

Grove City converted 22 Geneva turnovers into 24 points. Offensively, Grove City committed just 13 turnovers. The Wolverines shot 39 percent (26 of 67) from the field while Geneva made 38 percent (23 of 60) of its attempts.

Junior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) dished out four assists while Gebrosky tallied four steals. Geneva out-rebounded Grove City, 43-40. Michawn Rich led Geneva with 15 points.

Grove City has won nine straight games when scoring at least 61 points. The Wolverines have also won two straight against Geneva.

Wednesday's game does not count in the Presidents' Athletic Conference standings due to Geneva's provisional status in NCAA Division III.

Grove City will visit Westminster Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in PAC play in New Wilmington, Pa.
