Chatham nips Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped to 1-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference with a 53-49 setback against visiting Chatham (7-3, 1-2) Saturday afternoon at the Grove City College Arena. Chatham closed the game on an 8-0 run over the final three minutes of the game.

Junior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) led Grove City with 12 points while sophomore guard Jenna Johnston (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Senior guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) added 10 points and a game-high three assists.

Grove City owned a 23-14 advantage at halftime and led by as many as 10, 30-20, in the second half. However, the Wolverines shot just 24 percent (7 of 29) from the field in the second half. Chatham shot 48 percent (12 of 25) in the second half.

For the game, Grove City went 17 for 56 (30 percent) on field goals while Chatham sank 18 of 49 (37 percent) field-goal attempts. Grove City (3-7 overall) out-rebounded Chatham 43-37. Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) joined Johnston in double-digits on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Brittany Brown led Chatham with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Barb Petty added 11 points. Chatham committed 19 turnovers while Grove City turned the ball over 17 times.

The Wolverines will host Penn State Behrend Monday at 6 p.m. in non-conference action.
