Bearcats clip Grove City
LATROBE, Pa. – Four Grove City players scored in double figures Saturday night but the visiting Wolverines dropped a 71-67 decision to host Saint Vincent in a Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s basketball game at the Carey Center.
Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) paced Grove City with a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double while freshman guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) fired in 14 points.
Senior guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) tossed in 13 points while freshman forward Jayme Caldwell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) added 12 points.
Grove City (6-9) trailed 42-37 at halftime but charged back to take a 48-47 lead as Slater buried a three with 13:54 left. However, Saint Vincent (10-4) reclaimed the lead, 52-51, on a jumper by Maria Baroffio a minute later.
Grove City shot 45 percent (23 of 51) from the field, including a 6-for-14 performance on three-point attempts. Grove City also out-rebounded the Bearcats 44-34.
Emily Fenton led Saint Vincent with 23 points while Maura Wahl added 21. Saint Vincent shot 36 percent (25 of 69) from the field.
Slater added four steals for Grove City while junior Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) distributed five assists. Grove City committed 30 turnovers.
Saturday’s game does not count in the PAC standings due to Saint Vincent’s provisional status in NCAA Division III.Grove City will host Thiel Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
