W&J downs Grove City

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Grove City College women’s basketball team fell to 4-5 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with an 83-56 setback against host Washington & Jefferson (17-2, 8-1 PAC) in conference action at the Henry Memorial Center.

Grove City (8-11 overall) trailed by just nine, 38-29, at halftime after trailing by as many as 19 in the first half. However, W&J broke the game open with a 25-2 run early in the second half.

Junior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) each fired in a team-high 15 points for Grove City. Freshman guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added 11 points. Miller also handed out four assists while Slater pulled in eight rebounds.

Grove City shot 21 of 55 (38 percent) from the floor while W&J made 33 of 72 (46 percent) attempts. W&J also out-rebounded Grove City 46-28. Emily Hays and Stephanie Smith each fired in 18 points for W&J. Smith also had seven assists.

Grove City turned the ball over 14 times while W&J had 10 turnovers.

Grove City will visit Chatham Wednesday night in PAC action at 7 p.m.
