Thomas More tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 9-12 overall and 5-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 73-40 setback against visiting Thomas More (19-2, 11-1 PAC) in PAC action at the Grove City College Arena.

Thomas More, which entered the game ranked 10th nationally in Division III by the D3Hoops.com poll, opened the second half with a 30-6 run that effectively sealed the win.

Grove City forced 18 Thomas More turnovers but the Saints out-rebounded Grove City 51-19. The Saints collected 19 offensive rebounds.

Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) led all scorers with 18 points while freshman guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) fired in 10 points. Slater also pulled in five rebounds for Grove City.

The Wolverines shot 17 of 53 (32 percent) from the floor while Thomas More sank 27 of 59 attempts (46 percent). Nicole Dickman led Thomas More with 17 points while Jayme Thiem collected 16 points and four assists.

Grove City turned the ball over just 15 times but Thomas More converted the miscues into 17 points.

Prior to the game, Grove City recognized senior point guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) in conjunction with Senior Day festivities. Szelong is a four-year letterwinner and three-year starter for the Wolverines.

Grove City hosts PAC rival Bethany Wednesday night at 6 p.m. Bethany (5-5 PAC) owns a half-game lead over Grove City in the battle for third place in the conference.
