Bethany tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped to 5-7 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night with a 67-59 setback against conference rival Bethany at the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) recorded her conference-best eighth double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds for Grove City (9-13) while junior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) also fired in 17 points. Junior Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) added 10 points.

Grove City shot 43 percent (20 of 47) from the field and also out-rebounded Bethany 38-31. However, Bethany (12-10, 6-5 PAC) turned 27 Grove City turnovers into 32 points.

Grove City jumped to a 12-4 lead in the first half and owned a 26-25 advantage at halftime. Slater drained a jumper with 14 minutes left in the second half to tie the game at 35-35. However, Bethany embarked on a 15-2 run to take control of the game. The Bison forced seven turnovers by Grove City during the run.

Kaitlyn McCormick led Bethany with 13 points. Bethany shot 43 percent (24 of 56) from the field. The Bison had 20 turnovers.

Grove City will visit Waynesburg Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. in PAC play.
