Wolverines charge past Waynesburg
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- Four Grove City College players scored in double figures Saturday night to help lead the visiting Wolverines past Waynesburg 62-41 in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Rudy Marisa Field House.
Sophomore forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) and freshman guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) each fired in 16 points for the Wolverines (10-13, 6-7 PAC) while senior guard Raeann Szelong (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) and junior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) both added 12 points each.
Grove City trailed 16-6 in the first half but eventually closed the gap to 23-20 by halftime. In the second half, Grove City shot 15 of 28 (54 percent) from the field and committed just three turnovers. Defensively, the Wolverines limited Waynesburg (8-15, 4-8 PAC) to just 17 percent (5 of 30) shooting from the floor over the final 20 minutes.
Grove City opened the second half on a 25-7 run in which four players scored multiple baskets. For the game, Grove City shot 42 percent (22 of 52) while Waynesburg made 14 of 55 (26 percent) attempts.
Slater and Beechy both had six rebounds. Beechy also had four steals and three assists while Szelong handed out three assists. Elisha Jones led Waynesburg with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Waynesburg out-rebounded Grove City 40-34. Grove City forced 21 turnovers.
Grove City will return to action Wednesday night when the Wolverines host Saint Vincent at 6 p.m.
