Kenyon tops Grove City in OT

ERIE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 59-52 overtime decision to Kenyon Friday night in the semifinals of the Penn State Behrend Tournament at the Junker Center. Grove City will now face host Behrend in the consolation game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Grove City (0-2) erased a 13-point deficit over the final 7:46 of regulation. The Wolverines finally tied the game at 47 with 1:16 left in regulation on a layup from senior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson). Neither team converted on a pair of possessions in the final minute, sending the game to overtime.

In overtime, Kenyon (1-0) held Grove City without a field goal for over four minutes as the Ladies outscored Grove City 12-5. Ten of the 12 points came at the foul line.

Junior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) led Grove City with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Miller added 10 points. Sophomore guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) distributed five assists.

Grove City limited Kenyon to just seven first-half field goals. However, Kenyon led 22-16 at the half as the Wolverines shot 19 percent (5 for 26). For the game, Grove City shot 26 percent (17 of 65) while Kenyon shot 37 percent (18 of 48). The Wolverines did force 34 turnovers.

Kathleen Williams led Kenyon with 21 points. Kenyon outrebounded Grove City 43-41.

Fredonia State edged Behrend 84-83 in the opening game Friday night. Fredonia State will meet Kenyon in the championship game at 3 p.m.
