Thomas More tops Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 77-56 decision to 13th-ranked Thomas More Wednesday night in the teams' respective Presidents' Athletic Conference opener in the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed by just six, 39-33, early in the second half when Thomas More (6-0, 1-0 PAC) broke the game open with a 15-0 run. The Wolverines countered with a 12-0 run of their own, however. Junior guard Jenna Johnston (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) capped the run with a three-pointer at the 13:28 mark, cutting the lead to 54-45.

Thomas More inched away down the stretch, though, en route to the win.

Junior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) paced Grove City (1-4, 0-1 PAC) with 13 points and eight rebounds while senior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) added a dozen points. Junior forward Alison Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) chipped in a season-high 11 points off the bench for the Wolverines. Wells also blocked three shots.

Four players scored in double figures for Thomas More, led by guard Katie Tierney with 14 points. Nicole Dickman and Chelsea Tolliver each had 12 points while Allison Long added 11.

Grove City shot 33 percent (22 of 67) from the field while Thomas More converted 30 of 57 (53 percent) shots from the field. The Saints also out-rebounded Grove City 43-37. Grove City had 25 turnovers and forced 24 Saint turnovers.

Grove City will visit PAC foe Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 4 p.m.
