Wilmington edges Grove City in OT

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 66-61 overtime decision to Wilmington Wednesday afternoon in the consolation game of Wittenberg University's Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic at Pam Evans Smith Arena. Grove City is now 4-6 overall.

The Wolverines led 32-27 at halftime and extended the lead to nine on a pair of occasions in the second half. Wilmington (5-5) rallied to tie the game and then took a 58-56 lead with two minutes left in regulation. Grove City reclaimed the lead with 1:35 left on a three-point goal by junior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center). Moments later, Wilmington's Kortney Kin tied the game by splitting two free throws and neither team scored over the final minute of regulation.

In overtime, Wilmington held Grove City scoreless for the final four minutes. Grove City went 1 for 13 from the field in overtime.

Slater paced Grove City with a 16-point, 15-rebound double-double while senior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) also posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Beechy also had six assists and four steals. Freshman guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in 13 points.

Both teams shot 35 percent from the field. Grove City converted 26 of 75 attempts while Wilmington went 25-for-72 from the field. Grove City owned a 53-49 edge on the glass.

Kin led all scorers with 23 points.

Grove City will visit Chatham Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
