Grove City falls in OT

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped to 7-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Monday night with a 69-67 setback at Bethany in conference action at Hummel Field House.

Grove City (10-11) had a chance to send the game to a second overtime but a 15-foot jumper at the buzzer by senior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) would not fall. Miller had sent the game to overtime with a game-tying putback with 33 seconds left in regulation.

The game featured six ties and six lead changes. Neither team led by more than seven points.

Junior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) paced Grove City with a 19-point, 13-rebound double-double. Sophomore guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) fired in 15 points, including 12 in the second half. Senior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) added 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.

Grove City shot 27 of 58 (47 percent) from the field, including a 13-for-25 (52 percent) effort in the second half. However, Grove City committed 21 turnovers.

Guard Anne Wilson led Bethany (7-14, 4-7 PAC) with a career-high 21 points. Katelynn Hackathorn added 13 points and 11 rebounds. Bethany shot 44 percent (22 of 59) from the field, including a 9-for-17 effort on three-point goals.

Beechy added nine rebounds for Grove City, helping the Wolverines (10-11 overall) own a 39-31 advantage on the glass.

A Beechy basket at the 11-minute gave Grove City its largest lead of the game, 49-42. Bethany countered with an 11-0 run to take the lead. Grove City would later tie the game but never reclaimed the lead.

Grove City has played in a program-record five overtime games this year. The Wolverines are 1-4 in overtime games this year.

Grove City will host Thiel Wednesday night at 6 p.m. in conference action.
