GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 8-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday night by earning a 64-51 win over visiting Thiel in conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (11-11 overall) charged out to a 31-13 lead in the first half and maintained a double-digit lead throughout much of the second half. Freshman guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) drained a three-pointer and sophomore forward Jayme Caldwell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) deposited a layup to cap the run.
Thiel (6-15, 2-9 PAC) cut the lead to 31-21 by halftime but the Wolverines pushed the lead back to 14 early in the second half as junior guard Megan Gibson (Littlestown, Pa./Mars) tossed in a pair of layups.
Senior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) joined Slater in double figures with 11 points. Leah Gibson added nine for the Wolverines, who are now 8-2 at home this year.
Slater secured 10 rebounds to earn her seventh double-double of the season. Senior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) distributed five assists while sophomore guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) had four assists.
