Westminster clips Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team wrapped up the 2009-10 regular season Saturday afternoon with a 64-56 setback at Westminster in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Memorial Field House. Grove City is now 12-13 overall and 8-6 in the conference.

Sophomore guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led Grove City with 18 points, including three three-point goals, while freshman guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in 17 points.

Grove City trailed 31-23 at halftime but eventually slashed the lead to 46-44 midway through the second half on a jumper from senior forward Laura Miller (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson).

However, Westminster's Amy Dolsak recorded a three-point play moments later that pushed the lead to five. Dolsak's play sparked a 14-5 run by the Titans. Westminster held Grove City scoreless for nearly five minutes during that span. Grove City shot just 32 percent (21 of 66) from the field in the game.

Westminster jumped out a 6-0 lead in the first half but Grove City countered with an 11-0 run. Gebrosky and Gibson both drained three-pointers while senior forward Krista Beechy (Winesburg, Ohio/Berlin Hiland) and sophomore forward Jayme Caldwell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) both added layups.

Westminster (11-14, 8-6) took the lead for good on consecutive three-pointers by guard Kaitlin McCarthy.

Emily Dolsak led Westminster with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Amy Dolsak and McCarthy both had 14 points each. Westminster shot 42 percent (20 of 48) from the field and owned a 45-36 rebounding edge. Junior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) grabbed a team-high six rebounds for Grove City. Slater also had four steals.

Grove City forced 22 turnovers while committing just 13.

Grove City is the No. 3 seed in next week's conference tournament. The Wolverines host sixth-seeded Chatham Tuesday night in a tournament quarterfinal at 7 p.m.
