Thomas More pulls away from Grove City

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday night with an 86-53 setback against No. 12 Thomas More (5-0, 1-0 PAC) at the Connor Convocation Center.

Thomas More broke the game open in the second half by embarking on a 26-7 run. Grove City (2-3, 0-1) fell behind 21-8 in the first half but eventually whittled the lead to 29-24. Thomas More closed the first half with a 7-2 spurt and led 36-26 at halftime.

Freshman forward Sarah Cessar (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) fired in a team-high 12 points for Grove City in her season debut. Senior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) added 11 points and pulled in a game-high eight rebounds. Slater moved into fifth place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,214 career points.

Nicole Dickman led Thomas More with 21 points while Allison Long and Chelsea Tolliver each had 14 points.

Thomas More shot 54 percent (36 of 66) from the field. Grove City shot 37 percent (19 of 52). Thomas More owned a 38-30 edge in rebounds. Grove City committed 20 turnovers while Thomas More had 13 turnovers.

The Wolverines will host Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 1 p.m. in conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
