SEASON PREVIEW

A new era begins in the Grove City College women's basketball team this winter as Michelle Bruns takes over as the program's sixth all-time head coach. She inherits a program that features four seniors and three other returning letterwinners from a 12-win season last winter.

Overall, Grove City returns three starters, including two-time First Team All-Presidents' Athletic Conference selection Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center). A 5-foot-9 senior forward, Slater ranks eighth all-time at Grove City with 1,127 career points. In 2009-10, she led the conference in scoring at 16.0 points per game. She also ranked second in the conference in rebounding at 8.8 per game.

Slater also led Grove City in assists (57) and three-point goals (33). She is a three-year starter.

Grove City also returns its starting backcourt in 5-5 junior Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and 5-4 sophomore Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover). Gebrosky started all 26 games in 2009-10 and averaged 7.9 points per game. She fired in 28 three-pointers.

Meanwhile, Gibson also started all 26 games as a rookie and finished second on the team in scoring at 8.7 points per game. She recorded 49 assists and will likely start again this winter.

Three senior letterwinners are also looking to earn starting spots this year: 5-7 guard Megan Gibson (Littlestown, Pa./Mars), 5-6 guard/forward Jenna Johnston (Strattanville, Pa./Clarion-Limestone) and 5-11 forward Alison Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille).

Megan Gibson played in 24 games as a reserve in 2009-10. She is a two-year letterwinner and can play a variety of spots on the floor. Johnston appeared in all 26 games last year, including one start. She could provide rebounding and additional scoring punch for the Wolverines.

Wells led the team in blocked shots in her first season at Grove City. She has an inside track to start at one of the frontcourt positions.

Also back is sophomore letterwinner Alicia Maust (Natrona Heights, Pa./Cheswick Christian), who will look to break into the rotation after playing in eight games as a freshman.

The Wolverines will likely look to receive contributions from a handful of newcomers this winter. Grove City finished 8-6 in the conference last year, good for third place in the league.
