Wolverines fall at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team fell to 10-9 overall and 6-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 58-44 setback against host Waynesburg (14-5, 7-4 PAC) at Rudy Marisa Field House.

Waynesburg led 24-19 at halftime and eventually opened up a 13-point lead, 40-27, with 11:40 left in the second half. Grove City pulled to within six, 42-36, on a three-pointer by senior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) and a backdoor layup by junior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) with 7:38 left.

However, Grove City could draw no closer as Waynesburg answered with a quick 5-0 spurt of its own.

Slater led Grove City with 15 points while Gebrosky finished with 10. The Wolverines shot just 30 percent (16 of 53) from the field and also committed 24 turnovers.

Elisha Jones led Waynesburg with 20 points. Jessi Drayer and Hannah Hunter each scored 11. Waynesburg converted 23 of 63 (37 percent) shots from the floor.

Slater and senior forward Alison Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) each had eight rebounds, helping Grove City own a 41-35 edge on the glass. Senior guard Megan Gibson (Littlestown, Pa./Mars) distributed three assists.

Grove City will visit Chatham Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in conference play.
