Balanced effort carries Grove City past Thiel

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Four Grove City players scored in double figures Wednesday night to help lift the Wolverines to a 75-67 win at Thiel in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.

Junior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) rifled in 18 points, senior forward Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) pumped in 17, sophomore guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) tallied 16 points and senior forward Alison Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) added 11 for Grove City (11-11, 7-7 PAC), which completed a season sweep of Thiel.

Grove City jumped out to a 14-7 lead but Thiel eventually took a five-point lead, 27-22, late in the first half. Grove City reclaimed the lead at 33-31, though, when Gebrosky hit a three-pointer and followed with a layup on the Wolverines' next possession. Grove City led 35-33 at the half.

Midway through the second half, Wells scored seven straight points for Grove City to give the Wolverines a 57-50 lead with 7:30 left. Wells hit her first three-point goal of the season during that spurt.

The Wolverines then sealed the win with an 8-0 run later in the half. Gebrosky and Slater hit consecutive threes and Gibson sank two free throws, extending the lead to 69-56 with three minutes left.

Grove City shot 46 percent (27 of 59) from the field, including a 4-for-8 effort on three-point goals. Thiel shot 48 percent (30 of 63) from the field. Grove City went 17 for 22 (77 percent) at the foul line while Thiel made just six of 11 attempts.
