Wolverines drop PAC opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 79-67 decision to visiting Bethany Wednesday night in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference opener in the Grove City College Arena.

Bethany (2-3, 1-0 PAC) closed the first half on a 9-1 run and led 36-29 at the intermission. Bethany then scored the first 10 points of the second half to open up a 46-29 lead. Grove City eventually whittled the lead to seven, 64-57, with five minutes left on a three-pointer from freshman forward Kelsey Whaley (Sylvania, Ohio/Southview).

However, Bethany reclaimed its double-digit lead down the stretch in securing the victory.

Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) led Grove City (1-4, 0-1 PAC) with a game-high 18 points while senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) fired in 13 points. Sophomore guard Sadie Malone (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mount Vernon) added nine points.

The Wolverines shot 42 percent (25 of 59) from the floor while Bethany converted 25 of 55 (46 percent) of its attempts. Bethany shot 11 for 21 (52 percent) from the field in the second half.

Katelynn Hackathorn led Bethany with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Anne Wilson added 14 points and Kayla Taormina contributed 11. Bethany owned a 39-30 rebound advantage.

Grove City's 67 points are a season high. The road team has won each of the last four meetings between the teams.

Grove City will visit conference foe Thomas More Saturday at 1 p.m.
