Saint Vincent tops Grove City

LATROBE, Pa. -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Wednesday night but the Wolverines dropped a 73-53 decision to host Saint Vincent (5-1, 3-0 PAC) in Presidents' Athletic Conference women's basketball action at the Carey Center.

Freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) fired in a season-high 15 points while senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) pumped in 13 points. Sophomore forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) added 10 points.

Grove City jumped out to a 17-9 lead in the first half but Saint Vincent countered with a 20-0 run over the next seven minutes. The Bearcats led 43-28 at halftime and pushed the lead to 26, 57-31, in the second half. Grove City closed to within 59-43 on two Gebrosky free throws with 8:27 left but the Wolverines could draw no closer.

Grove City shot 18 of 48 (38 percent) from the field for the game while Saint Vincent converted 26 of 61 (43 attempts). Grove City owned a 34-33 edge in rebounds. Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) led the Wolverines with five rebounds. She also had three steals.

Brittany Sedlock led Saint Vincent with 21 points and seven rebounds. Elle Collins added 12 points. Saint Vincent forced 26 Grove City turnovers.

The Wolverines (1-6, 0-3 PAC) will host Geneva Saturday at 1 p.m. in conference play.
