Grove City falls on road

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 61-53 decision to host Westminster Wednesday night in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at Memorial Field House.

Grove City jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the first half as senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) bookended the run with layups and junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) added a three-pointer and a layup during the spurt. Junior Alicia Maust (Natrona Heights, Pa./Cheswick Christian) and sophomore forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) also hit jumpers in the game-opening run.

However, Westminster rallied to take a 26-25 lead by halftime.

Grove City reclaimed a 29-28 lead three minutes into the second half on a Gibson layup but Westminster took back the lead for good on its next possession when junior forward Katie Hughes scored in the low post.

Gibson led Grove City with 18 points and Gebrosky added 14. Gebrosky also had four steals. Freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) pulled in seven rebounds and Maust had five rebounds. Westminster owned a 42-35 rebound advantage.

Hughes led Westminster (2-9, 2-3 PAC) with 20 points and Courtney Zitt added 18. Westminster shot 44 percent (25 of 57) from the floor while Grove City went 20 for 58 (35 percent). Both teams had 16 turnovers.

Grove City will visit conference foe Chatham Saturday at 2 p.m.
