Waynesburg tops Grove City
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped to 3-5 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a 79-51 setback at conference co-leader Waynesburg (12-3, 7-1 PAC) in the Rudy Marisa Field House.
Waynesburg jumped to a 30-6 lead and led 43-13 at halftime. Waynesburg shot 55 percent (17 of 31) from the field in the first half while Grove City went 6 for 31 (19 percent) over the first 20 minutes.
Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) led Grove City (4-11 overall) with 11 points. Freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Brittany Spencer led Waynesburg with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Jessi Drayer fired in 17 points.
Waynesburg shot 33 of 72 (46 percent) from the field while Grove City converted 17 of 68 (25 percent). Waynesburg outrebounded Grove City 54-43. Grove City had 23 turnovers but forced Waynesburg into 25 miscues.
Grove City will conclude the first half of the conference schedule Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against Thiel.
