Bethany edges Grove City

BETHANY, W.Va. -- Three Grove City players scored in double figures Saturday afternoon but the Wolverines dropped a 67-61 decision at Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference play at Hummel Field House.

Grove City jumped out to a 24-11 lead in the first half and led 31-22 at halftime. However, Bethany (10-7, 6-4 PAC) took the lead for good by embarking on a 17-5 run during the middle portion of the second half.

Grove City pulled to within 49-46 with 7:22 left on a jumper from freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia). Bethany countered with a 6-0 spurt of its own, though, and closed out the win down the stretch.

Shirey led the Wolverines with 14 points while senior Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) added 11 points. Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) posted 10 points.

Shirey grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and senior Jayme Caldwell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) added eight rebounds. Sophomore Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J/Baptist) recorded nine points and seven rebounds.

Audra Droginske led Bethany with 22 points while Kayla Taormina recorded 12 points and seven rebounds. Center Katelynn Hackathorn posted a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double. Bethany outrebounded Grove City 45-41.

For the game, Grove City shot 41 percent (24 of 58) from the floor. Bethany, meanwhile, went 22 of 66 (35 percent). Bethany had 12 turnovers and Grove City turned over the ball 17 times.

Grove City (4-13, 3-7) will host league leader Thomas More Wednesday night at 6 p.m.
