Grove City rolls past Geneva
BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team completed a season sweep of Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Geneva Wednesday night as the Wolverines earned a 46-36 road win at Metheny Field House.
Grove City held Geneva to just 29 percent (15 of 51) shooting from the field for the game. Geneva led 26-25 with 12 minutes left but the Wolverines closed the game on a 21-10 run.
Freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) drilled consecutive three-point goals to put Grove City ahead 31-26. Geneva cut the lead to 31-30 but senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) hit a three-pointer and sophomore forward Annie Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) followed with a putback.
Grove City jumped out to a 15-5 lead but Geneva eventually whittled the lead to 20-18 by halftime.
Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) paced Grove City with 14 points and Gebrosky added 11. Grove City shot 19 of 55 (35 percent) for the game and had just 11 turnovers. Shirey led Grove City with seven rebounds and five assists. Gebrosky added three assists.
Samantha Fisher led Geneva (3-17, 2-11 PAC) with 12 points while Rachel Rouan had 11 points and 10 rebounds. Geneva outrebounded Grove City 38-37. The Golden Tornadoes turned over the ball 16 times.
Grove City earned a 48-36 win over Geneva December 10 in the Grove City College Arena.
The Wolverines (5-15, 4-9 PAC) will host conference foe Westminster Saturday at 1 p.m. on Hall of Fame Day.
