Wolverines storm past Westminster

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 5-9 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon with a come-from-behind 65-54 win over conference rival Westminster on Hall of Fame Day in the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City trailed 31-24 at halftime and trailed by as many as nine points before storming back for the victory.

Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in a game-high 20 points for the Wolverines (6-15 overall) while senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) pumped in 17 points. Sophomore forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) recorded an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Grove City shot 52 percent (15 of 29) from the floor in the second half and held Westminster (7-13, 7-7 PAC) to a 9-of-25 (36 percent) effort on second-half field goals.

Gebrosky and freshman guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) both hit three-pointers early in the second half to ignite a 10-0 run for the Wolverines, erasing Westminster's 33-24 lead.

Grove City then took the lead for good later in the half by embarking on another 10-0 run. Coneby started the spurt with a layup while Gebrosky extended the advantage to 49-46 with a layup at the six-minute mark. Junior Alicia Maust (Natrona Heights, Pa./Cheswick Christian) hit a pair of free throws and then swished a jumper on Grove City's next possession to push the lead to 53-46.

A Gibson jumper closed the run and gave the Wolverines their largest lead to that point.

For the game, Grove City shot 26 of 59 (44 percent). Westminster went 20 of 44 (46 percent). Grove City owned a 34-28 edge in rebounds. Shirey, who also had nine points, grabbed five rebounds.

No Westminster player scored in double figures. Emily Dolsak, Danielle Gilmore, Jenna Grandy and Katie Hughes all had nine points each.

Grove City forced 17 turnovers while committing only 10. Gebrosky had three assists.

Gebrosky now has 118 career three-point goals, the second-most in program history. Grove City has won seven of its last nine against Westminster.

The Wolverines will host conference foe Chatham Wednesday at 6 p.m.
