Third straight for Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team won its third consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference game Wednesday night, leading wire-to-wire in a 67-55 home win over conference foe Chatham in the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first 75 seconds of the game and extended the margin to 36-19 by halftime. The Wolverines then broke open the game with a 12-3 run at the start of the second half.

Junior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) started the spurt with a jumper and senior guard Megan Gebrosky (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) followed with a three-pointer. Sophomore guard Sadie Malone (Gates Mills, Ohio/Mount Vernon) closed out the run with a three-pointer, giving Grove City a 48-26 lead with 15:40 remaining.

Chatham (4-17, 1-14 PAC) cut the lead down to 11 twice late in the second half but could get no closer.

Gibson led Grove City with 19 points. Senior forward Jayme Caldwell (Smithville, Ohio/Smithville) poured in 11 points and Gebrosky added 10 points, along with four assists. Grove City shot 25 of 68 (37 percent) for the game while limiting Chatham to a 21-for-56 (38 percent) effort.

Grove City outrebounded Chatham 55-35. Sophomore forward Annie Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille Union) led Grove City with a career-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) grabbed nine rebounds to go with her nine points.

Carly Zelenak led Chatham with a game-high 20 points. Marguerite Sargent added 15 points.

The Wolverines (7-15, 6-9) will visit Washington & Jefferson Saturday at 2 p.m. in conference action.
