Gibson scores 31 but Wolverines fall
LATROBE, Pa. -- Senior guard Leah Gibson (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover) fired in a career-high 31 points Saturday afternoon but the Grove City College women's basketball team fell at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Saint Vincent, 93-62, at the Carey Center.
Gibson scored her 31 points on 9-of-17 shooting from the field, including five three-point goals. She also went 8 for 9 at the foul line. Gibson moved into seventh place on Grove City's all-time scoring list with 1,191 career points.
Freshman forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) added 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in her first collegiate start.
Saint Vincent led 49-33 at halftime and shot 19 of 32 (59 percent) from the floor in the second half to take control of the game. For the game, Saint Vincent (16-5, 12-2 PAC) shot 56 percent (38 of 68) from the field.
Grove City shot 39 percent (22 of 56) from the field. The Wolverines owned a 36-34 edge in rebounds but committed 22 turnovers. Saint Vincent had just 10 turnovers.
Devin McGrath led the Bearcats with 20 points.
Grove City (7-11, 6-8 PAC) will visit conference rival Washington & Jefferson Wednesday at 6 p.m.
