Grove City falls in OT
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 57-52 overtime decision to visiting Pitt-Bradford (1-3) Friday night in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
Grove City (1-3) took a 52-50 lead with three minutes left on layup from sophomore forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) but Pitt-Bradford countered with a game-ending 7-0 run. The Wolverines misfired on their final 10 attempts from the field in overtime.
Pitt-Bradford led 25-20 at halftime and extended the lead to 32-22. Grove City rebounded with a 14-2 spurt to reclaim the lead. Erbelding helped spark the comeback with a pair of inside baskets while junior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) hit four straight free throws after an administrative technical foul.
The Wolverines then edged ahead, 36-34, when sophomore forward Mary McDonald (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) converted a pair of foul shots with 10:22 left in the second half.
Erbelding led Grove City with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds. She also had four assists and four steals. McDonald added eight points and nine rebounds. Senior forward Annie Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) recorded eight points and a pair of blocks. Junior guard Brandy Nickoloff (Pittsburgh, Pa./St. Joseph) tallied a season-high four steals.
Alicia Kimmel led Pitt-Bradford with 18 points.
Grove City shot 32 percent (20 of 63) from the field while Pitt-Bradford went 19 for 59 (32 percent). Grove City held a 49-44 edge on the glass. Grove City committed 27 turnovers and Pitt-Bradford had 23 giveaways.
Grove City will visit Allegheny Saturday at 4 p.m. in non-conference play.
