Grove City drops league opener

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference schedule Wednesday night with an 88-42 setback against visiting Thomas More (6-0, 1-0) at the Grove City College Arena.

Thomas More, the No. 7 team in this week's D3Hoops.com Division III top 25 poll, bolted to a 31-6 lead midway through the first half. The Saints led 55-16 at halftime.

Junior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia), sophomore forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and sophomore forward Ausinette Rodriguez (Frederick, Md./Urbana) all posted a team-high seven points for Grove City.

Rodriguez and senior forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) both grabbed six rebounds, helping the Wolverines earn a 41-38 edge on the glass. Erbelding added three assists.

For the game, Grove City (1-5, 0-1 PAC) shot 32 percent (17 of 53) from the field. Thomas More went 33 for 73 (45 percent) from the field. Thomas More also forced 35 Wolverine turnovers.

Sydni Wainscott led Thomas More with 19 points while Sydney Moss added 17 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany Saturday at 2 p.m.
