Wolverines fall on road

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- Three Grove City College women's basketball players scored in double figures Monday night at Pitt-Greensburg but the Wolverines dropped a 66-57 decision to Pitt-Greensburg in non-conference action at Chambers Hall.

Sophomore forward Mary McDonald (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) paced Grove City with 16 points and a season-high 16 rebounds while junior guard Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) fired in 13 points. Junior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) added 11 points for the Wolverines, who played their first game in 23 days.

Pitt-Greensburg (5-5) led by as many as 10, 33-23, in the first half and held a 36-30 halftime lead. Grove City charged back to take the lead early in the second half after McDonald, Shirey and McClean all hit jumpers.

However, Pitt-Greensburg held Grove City without a field goal for over six minutes down the stretch.

Grove City shot 42 percent (23 of 55) from the floor while Pitt-Greensburg went 22 for 62 (36 percent). Grove City owned a 47-35 rebound advantage. Grove City turned over the ball 24 times while the Bobcats had 13 turnovers.

Kayla Dames led Pitt-Greensburg with 21 points.

Senior forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) blocked five shots for Grove City.

The Wolverines return to action Friday at 1 p.m. against visiting Waynesburg in Presidents' Athletic Conference action.
