Bearcats top Grove City

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped an 84-67 decision at Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Carey Center.

Junior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) fired in 17 points for Grove City while sophomore forward Ausinette Rodriguez (Frederick, Md./Urbana) added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds.

Saint Vincent (7-4, 4-0 PAC) closed the first half with a 16-3 run over the final three minutes and led 48-33 at halftime. The Bearcats then scored nine of the first 11 points in the second half to break open the game.

Senior forward Annie Wells (Waterville, Vt./Lamoille) and freshman guard Jackie Stewart (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each tossed in eight points for the Wolverines, who shot 20 of 61 (33 percent) from the field. Saint Vincent went 27 for 75 (36 percent) from the field.

Mara Benvenuti led Saint Vincent with 15 points while Elle Collins added 14. Saint Vincent outrebounded Grove City 55-46.

Rodriguez added four assists and four blocks while senior forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) had five steals and three blocks. Sophomore forward Mary McDonald (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) and freshman guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) both had three assists. Sophomore guard Macie Malone (Mount Vernon, Ohio/Cornerstone Christian) added three steals.

Grove City will host Franciscan Tuesday in non-conference action at 2 p.m. in the Grove City College Arena. The Wolverines will host conference foe Chatham Wednesday at 7 p.m.
