Grove City falls at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball couldn't overcome a late Washington & Jefferson first-half run, falling to the Presidents 63-50 in Presidents' Athletic Conference action at the Henry Memorial Center on Wednesday evening.

Senior forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) led the Wolverines (3-10, 2-5 PAC) with 13 points and six rebounds while sophomore Mary McDonald (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) added eight points.

McDonald netted the game's first two points on a jumper but the Presidents (9-5, 4-3) answered quickly with an 11-2 run to lead 11-4 just over five minutes in.

Grove City battled back to narrow the gap to 18-16 on a layup by sophomore Ausinette Rodriguez (Frederick, Md./Urbana) with 7:58 left in the half, but W&J closed the half on a 20-6 run to take a 38-22 lead into the locker room.

The Presidents extended their lead to 23 midway through the second half and still led by 22 with 4:57 remaining before the Wolverines closed the game on a 12-3 run.

The Wolverines held a 40-32 advantage on the boards but failed to make a three-pointer and committed 23 turnovers compared to just 13 for W&J.

Grove City returns to action on Saturday, traveling to PAC-rival Thiel for a 1 p.m. game.
