Grove City tops Franciscan

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team closed the non-conference portion of the 2013-14 schedule Monday night by securing a 63-51 victory over visiting Franciscan at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City limited Franciscan to just four first-half field goals as the Wolverines built a 36-15 lead by halftime. For the game, Grove City held the Barons to a 13 for 55 (24 percent) shooting performance from the field.

Junior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) and sophomore forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) each fired in a dozen points for Grove City while senior forward Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) added eight points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.

The Wolverines shot 26 for 63 (41 percent) from the field. Shirey also had four assists while Erbelding had three assists and pulled in seven rebounds. Grove City held a 45-42 edge in rebounds.

Dani Link led Franciscan (4-15) with 13 points. Each team had 22 turnovers. Grove City (6-13) never trailed.

The Wolverines return to Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at Chatham. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
