Wolverines fall to Saint Vincent

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team shot just 23 percent from the floor en route to a 73-34 Presidents' Athletic Conference loss to Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at the Grove City College Arena.

Sophomore Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) led the Wolverines (7-14, 5-9 PAC) with eight points while fellow sophomore Mary McDonald (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) added seven points and a game-high 10 rebounds.

Saint Vincent (15-6, 12-2) charged out to a 14-4 lead at the 14:39 mark as Mara Benvenuti scored seven points and assisted on the Bearcats' other three baskets.

The Bearcats' lead grew to 23-7 before the Wolverines answered with an Erbelding layup and a three by junior Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) to cut the deficit to 23-12 with 7:59 remaining. Senior Hannah Jo Coneby (Maple Shade, N.J./Baptist) answered an Ally Schmidt layup with a jumper of her own to keep the margin at 11, but Saint Vincent would close the half on a 15-2 run to take a 40-16 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Saint Vincent opened with a 9-1 run and didn't lead by less than 30 the rest of the way.

The Wolverines committed 26 turnovers leading to 17 Bearcat points. Saint Vincent also held a 40-14 advantage in point in the paint.

Grove City returns to action on Wednesday, hosting PAC-rival Washington and Jefferson at 5:30 p.m.
