Wolverines improve to 1-1

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Anderson (Ind.) University Tip-Off Tournament by earning an 83-63 win over Cincinnati-Clermont (2-5) Friday night. Grove City trailed 37-36 at halftime but limited Clermont to just nine field goals in the second half.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) led Grove City with 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting. She also pulled down 10 rebounds, helping the Wolverines (1-1) own a 49-30 edge on the glass.

Senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) fired in 17 points and senior guard Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) pumped in 11 points. Twelve different Grove City players scored in the game.

Grove City shot 50 percent (32 of 64) from the field for the game, including a 5-for-12 (42 percent) effort on three-point goals. Defensively, Grove City held Clermont to 34 percent shooting (20 for 59) from the field.

Erbelding added six steals and three assists. Freshman guard Katelyn Miller (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) also had three assists. Sophomore forward Eloise Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Classical Academy) grabbed eight rebounds.

Tess Jenike led Clermont with 20 points.

Grove City will face Webster (Mo.) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the tournament finals. Webster earned a 59-46 win at Anderson in Friday's other semifinal.
