Grove City drops title game

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped an 81-61 decision to Webster (Mo.) Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the Anderson University Tip-Off Tournament.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) and senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) both fired in 17 points for Grove City. Erbelding added 11 rebounds and four assists, earning All-Tournament honors.

Senior guard Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) recorded 11 points for Grove City (1-2), which trailed 39-33 at halftime.

Webster (3-1) jumped out to a 22-10 lead in the first half but Grove City surged ahead, 29-28, with 2:32 left on a pair of Shirey free throws. However, Webster closed the period on an 11-3 run.

Grove City shot 39 percent (20 of 52) from the field for the game. Webster converted 31 of 53 (59 percent) field goal attempts, including a 17-for-28 effort in the second half. Grove City outrebounded Webster 32-28.

Sophomore guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) distributed four assists for the Wolverines. Webster's Cassie Endicott led all scorers with 21 points.

Grove City will visit Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
