Grove City drops non-conference tilt

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 66-47 decision to visiting Allegheny in non-conference action Monday night at the Grove City College Arena.

Allegheny (8-2) took the lead for good in the first half by going on a 16-3 run that gave the Gators a 24-11 lead. Allegheny pushed the lead to 30-16 by halftime. Allegheny then maintained a double-digit lead in the second half.

Senior guard Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) led Grove City with 11 points and six rebounds. Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) added 10 points and a game-high five steals.

Grove City shot 33 percent (21 for 64) from the field for the game. The Wolverines went 7 for 30 (23 percent) in the first half. Allegheny finished 27 of 57 (47 percent) from the field.

Senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) added six rebounds and three assists for Grove City. Each team had 38 rebounds. Grove City had 21 turnovers and forced 20 Allegheny turnovers. Emma Pellicano led Allegheny with 17 points.

Grove City returns to action December 29-30 at the Capital University Christmas Tournament in Bexley, Ohio. The Wolverines face Centre (Ky.) on the 29th at 5 p.m. Capital and Wooster are the other participating programs.
