Wolverines fall in finals

BEXLEY, Ohio -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 73-50 decision to host Capital in the championship game of the Marriott Columbus Airport Holiday Tournament Tuesday evening at the Capital Centre.

Senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) led Grove City with 14 points while senior forward Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Grove City shot 19 for 55 (35 percent) from the field for the game while Capital went 26 for 54 (48 percent). Grove City owned a 38-35 edge in rebounds. Capital (7-4) jumped to out a 34-15 lead in the first half and held a 37-21 lead at halftime.

Shelby Sheets led Capital with 22 points. For Grove City, freshman guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) recorded four steals.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) earned All-Tournament honors for the Wolverines.

Grove City will host Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Geneva at 1 p.m. Saturday.
