Wolverines storm past Chatham

PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College women's basketball team improved to 4-3 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference by earning a 68-48 win at Chatham Wednesday night at the Chatham Centre.

Junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia) fired in a game-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Grove City (6-8 overall), while senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) drilled four three-point goals as part of a 17-point effort. Senior Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) chalked up a 12-point, 13-rebound double-double for the Wolverines.

Shirey drained consecutive three-pointers in the final minute of the first half to help Grove City take a 31-24 halftime lead. The Wolverines led 50-42 with seven minutes left before closing the game on an 18-6 run. Grove City held Chatham without a field goal over the final 3:24 of the game.

Grove City went 27 for 63 (43 percent) from the field for the game. Chatham shot 16 for 44 (36 percent) from the field. Grove City held a 43-32 edge in rebounds. Grove City committed just 13 turnovers and forced Chatham into turning over the ball 22 times.

Sophomore guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) recorded four steals while Erbelding and McClean each had three thefts. Shirey and McClean both distributed three assists.

Anna Shashura led Chatham (4-10, 1-6) with 11 points.

Grove City will host conference foe Thiel at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Grove City College Arena.
