Bethany edges Grove City, 68-66

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College women's basketball team dropped a 68-66 decision to visiting Bethany in Presidents' Athletic Conference action Wednesday night at the Grove City College Arena.

Grove City (7-9, 5-4 PAC) led 56-50 with 8:23 remaining but Bethany used a 9-0 run over the next three minutes to take the lead for good. Grove City twice closed to within a point in the final three minutes but could not reclaim the lead.

Four Grove City players scored in double figures, led by a 19-point outing from junior forward Kathryn Erbelding (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Olympia). Senior guard Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia), sophomore guard Teresa Dallatore (Mars, Pa./Mars) and freshman guard Lexie Arkwright (Mercer, Pa./Mercer) all pumped in 11 points each.

Dallatore and Erbelding both pulled down eight rebounds, helping Grove City own a 46-41 edge on the glass. Erbelding also had four assists and five steals while Arkwright and senior Cayley McClean (Airville, Pa./Kennard-Dale) each had three assists. Arkwright also blocked three shots.

Grove City shot 27 for 66 (41 percent) from the field, including a 6-for-13 (46 percent) effort on three-point attempts. Bethany went 24 for 61 (39 percent) from the floor. The Bison converted 16 of 28 free throws while Grove City made 6 of its 11 attempts at the line.

Grove City turned over the ball 24 times while Bethany committed 20 turnovers. Bethany led 38-34 at halftime.

Kelsea Daugherty led Bethany (8-8, 4-5) with 26 points and 15 rebounds.

Grove City opens the second half of the conference schedule Saturday at Washington & Jefferson. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
